A DAY IN ST. KILDA
A lazy Sunday stroll through St. Kilda was the perfect way to wrap up our little trip east, in stark contrast to the macho beer fest that summed up the day before at the AFL Grand Final (let's just say the men behind us couldn't hold a beer to save their lives or, more importantly, my leather jacket). Since our flight didn't leave until nighttime, we decided to walk the half hour to St. Kilda beach from our lovely Melbourne accommodation at Parkview Hotel. I regretted my heeled footwear when we cut through Albert Park brimming with weekend runners, joggers and walkers; but then again I'm not one to shy away from being a little different. Heck, I decided to wear all-black to the damned beach (again).
Before long we found ourselves surrounded by beautiful historic townhouses and lush tree-lined streets. Brad, being the 'outdoorsy' type that he is, was gushing uncontrollably at the sprawling green hedges and wall climbers, repeating "Babe, let's do this to our place". More than a few times I had to remind him that "these things don't exactly happen over night". And of course, we just had to take a few snaps for proof.
We enjoyed a delicious brunch at the very cool GB Espresso on Fitzroy Street prior to lapping up the sun on the pier. It seemed that half of Melbourne was out celebrating the clear blue skies, despite it not being particularly hot (well, in Perth terms anyway). I shouldn't say that though, as any tan that I attained from that day was faded and lost as soon after a day being home.
Only as we were sitting there did I realise how very little time us 21st century humans stop, sit and relax. It did occur to me that perhaps I should have booked an earlier flight, but really it was a rare opportunity for the two of us to completely take in our surroundings, have nonsensical conversations and eat copious amounts of lemon and mango sorbet.
Despite that, we checked-in at the airport three-hours early, which gave me enough time to upload a photo of the spankin' new Elle Australia to Instagram before my phone died and read it cover to cover in one sitting. And before we knew it, we were settled on the Qantas Airbus for our 4.5 hour flight home to Perth (blast that strong head wind!).
