Niseko Grand Hirafu Travel Diary
Siberian weather fronts that result in the fluffiest snow in the world is just one of the many reasons to take the three-hour drive from Sapporo to Niseko, in Hokkaido. If knee deep snow (at its shallowest) is your thing, then it's time to hop on a plane, don your hightop Nikes and experience a true white winter. This powder town is not just rich in snow, but multicultural presence, especially evident in its vast array of dining options. We've made our tastebuds very happy eating at teppanyaki at Kabuki, butter chicken from Taj Mahal's street food van and Michelin star French at Kamimura.
With an average daily snow fall of, well, a crazy amount, Brad and I had just about given up on viewing Mt. Yotei, when one magical day the clouds finally parted and we were thoroughly rewarded with breathtaking views of the active volcano. Honey, we're not in Australia anymore.
