The Winter Wonderland

"She still remembers the first time she saw snow."

________

"The first time she touched it, played with it, laughed with it. Her cheeks hurt from laughing; the best kind of aching. She was a still a child, living in a cosy bubble, but it was then that she knew she needed to see more. And as she became a young woman, she set out and witnessed snows all over the world. It was a magic of which she simply couldn't get enough. The only thing that triumphed over the snow was those she got to experience it with; her wonderful family, her friends, new and old, and, now, her soulmate.

"She can't help but think, what a privilege it is to wander among this winter wonderland; her foot prints in the sparkling snow laden ground, to be surrounded by trees covered all in white, to breathe in the fresh crisp air, and laugh again like she's still a child, if not for just a moment."

And what a privilege it was to shoot this magical editorial at The Glasshouse with The Luxe Nomad in Niseko, Hokkaido. After travelling for a day and a half, only sleep was on my mind. So, after a good nights rest, plenty of water and skin-saving serum, we woke early to prep for the photo shoot. I'll admit, it felt strange for me to have a face full of makeup in a ski resort, but if I was going to do it, heck, it may as well be a face full of luxurious Estée Lauder, no?

After a few early morning delays, it was time to shoot my most exciting personal project to date in the midst of my favourite winter wonderland. Dressed in luxe angora knits, buttery soft leather and cosy cocoon coats, you'd think I was prematurely excited for a mild Australian winter if not for the snow covered landscape and warming interior of The Glasshouse (which, by the way, sure lives up to its name).

Indeed, it has become something of an annual ritual to seek out minus-something scenes in the middle of our Australian summers of late, exchanging our southern hemisphere sunshine for northern hemisphere snow. I was just fifteen when my cheeks ached from excitement the first time I touched snow, and have been lucky enough to spend many moments experiencing it since, across this beautiful world of ours.
