5 Reasons You Should Start Blogging NOW!

There's really no excuse.
________

As the landscape of social media is constantly being poked and prodded (case in point, Facebook and Instagram), it's never been more important to have your own little space on the World Wide Web. The fact is, there's really no reason not to, which you're about to discover (if you haven't already!). I'm constantly flooded with emails and comments about whether someone should create their own blog and how to begin, and the best advice I could ever give to anyone is to START NOW!

So, before I begin mumbling away about how much I adore blogging, how about I instead convince you to create your very own, so you can experience it for yourself?

1. A blog doubles as a portfolio. Or a resumé. Or both. The fact is, if you don't have some sort of online portfolio these days, chances are that somebody else that does may get picked for your dream job over you (even if you're waaaay better!). Putting in that extra effort to create a stellar blog is just another reason why you should be on top of their list, whether it's a personal platform or purely professional. It will allow perspective employers to gain an insight into your knowledge, your experience and who you are as a person. It's a win-win!

2. It's yours and you control it. Unlike social media platforms, you control your blog. You call the shots when it comes to what it looks like, how it reads, the content, everything. Unfortunately, we don't have any say in what happens to our beloved Apps, which are at the mercy of its big-time owners. Facebook, I'm looking at you. And now that everybody's favourite, Instagram, is converting to cringe-worthy algorithms, it's more important than ever to pay more attention to your blog.

3. Unexpected opportunities. You wouldn't believe the amount of mind-blowing opportunities that have found themselves in my inbox thanks to my little corner of the Internet. I've worked on campaigns with global brands, travelled a lot, been contracted as a freelance art director and photographer, and the list goes on, all because I dedicate myself to Lion in the Wild. These are projects that I would never have had a look in if it weren't for my blog. And the best thing? They came to me because I decided to share my work on the Internet. Pretty cool, eh?

4. Learn new things. And become a master of your niche. I learnt a lot during my time at university, but it doesn't even begin to compare to the wealth of knowledge I've gained thanks to blogging. Everyday I'm researching, experimenting and discovering, and all in fields in which I'm very passionate. This allows you to not only become an expert, but also be known as one.

5. Blogging is free. Do you know how easy it is to create a free blog on Blogger or Wordpress? It's so simple and cost-effective (because, you know, it's free) that there really is not excuse not to have one. Sure, a blog may take a lot of dedication and time, but it's more than worth investing in one.

Do you think having a blog is essential? Or is social media just as effective? I'd love to know your opinion.
