2 Ways to Style the Metallic Midi Skirt

The Front Line with Westfield.

Introducing the not-so-humble midi skirt, an item that is far more versatile than you may initially think. There's no doubting that midi skirts have really concreted themselves as a fashion must-have again over the past few seasons, with the A-line and split leg styles dominating the street, but recently it has reinvented itself in a more lightweight and shiny model.

In silver, gold and even rose, the metallic pleated midi skirt is the perfect modern twist on a timeless item and there's no doubting that they have taken over almost every fashion board on Pinterest of late (mine included!).

As you already know, this season I've joined Westfield's The Front Line Campaign, where you can find all the top SS16 trends to help you express yourself through your own personal style, while being total girl bosses (duh!).

Earlier this month, I shared with you my 4 Must-Have Neutral Pieces For Spring, and today I'm going to convince you just how versatile the metallic midi skirt can be by showing you two ways to style the eye-catching piece.

Look #1: Keeping it casual.

One of my absolute favourite styling tricks is to mix casual and dressy pieces, which is why the metallic midi skirt is such a fun addition to your wardrobe. It may be your first reaction to dress up such a fancy number, but you can definitely wear it during the day too.

Styled with an oversized muscle singlet, a cool fedora hat and some super fresh white sneakers (all wardrobe must-haves, no matter the season), the skirt is instantly transformed into a dressed-down street style favourite. Ah yes, the metallic midi is one fabulous way to up-the-ante when it comes to your usual basics. It's as easy as that!

Trust me when I say, you'll be opting to swap your mini skirts and cut-off shorts just like me for this modest, yet far more playful and fun version before you know it.

I'm wearing: Dotti metallic silver midi skirt, and Silent Theory white singlet, Brixton black fedora and Lacoste sneakers, all from Universal Store.

Look #2: Head-to-toe glamour.

I don't know about you, but my calendar is jam-packed with events at this time of the year (every year, like clockwork), so it's really important that I stock-up on versatile pieces like the metallic pleated midi skirt that I can wear multiple times throughout the season. The best thing about a garment like this is that it never looks the same and always looks fabulous.

For a night out, I had so much fun styling the skirt with a few on-trend pieces like the off-the-shoulder top, a thin velvet choker and a pair of skyscraper-high platform heels. Then, I added a little va-va-voom with a beautiful gold clutch to contrast against the silver and a bold red lip for a pop of colour.

Not only is this look perfect for a night out, but it's also incredibly flattering. While the top shows off the shoulders and skirt synchs in the waist, the platform heels add an extra few inches of height. Oh, and you might be surprised by just how comfortable they are too!

I'm wearing: Dotti metallic silver midi skirt and off-the-shoulder top, Token velvet choker from Universal Store, Novo gold clutch bag and platform heels, Pandora rings and MAC Cosmetics Matte Lipstick in Perfect Score.

So, while my style is usually on the more casual side of the spectrum, it's great to have pieces you can also dress up, and the metallic pleated midi skirt is without a doubt my go-to right now, day and night.

Which is your favourite look? #1 or #2?
