Brisbane Travel Diary

Last week Brad and I found ourselves on the other side of Australia in sunny Brisbane, shooting a fun campaign with Expedia (you can check it here and here on the ‘Gram). And while, yes, it was for work, we sure managed some downtime to enjoy our incredible hotel, the Fortitude Valley location and city surrounds.

If you can’t already tell by the photos, we stayed at the iconic hotel, The Calile. Before you ask, oh heck yes I would most certainly stay here again. The architecture, the service, the amenities, the everything was top notch. We spent our time drinking coffee at The Lobby Bar, slurping Moreton Bay bug spaghetti at Hellenika, indulging in salted caramel ice cream at Gelato Messina and enjoying a margarita or two at the pool. Indeed, as the sun set below the palm trees overhead and the warm light filtered through while you lounge about poolside, you’d be forgiven for thinking you were in Palm Springs, even for just a moment. We sure did.

And when it was time to retire to our room (we stayed in the exceptional Junior Suite), we weren’t even just a little bit disappointed. Our nights were spent on our private balcony overlooking the leafy streets of the Valley and out to the glimmering city beyond. Finally, we made a tradition of soaking in the circular bath before snuggling up. Like I said, we’d happily return to The Calile.

My only disappointment? I ran out of time to enjoy a facial at Kailo Medispa. Next time.

Now, I’ve spent some time in Brisbane over the past few years, but rarely more than a night or two for business, so you can imagine how delighted I was to finally see the city properly; from the sky! Expedia treated us to a helicopter flight over Brisbane city, Mt Gravatt and Mt Cootha, which was pretty spectacular (I’ll never ever get over flying in a helicopter!). We flew with Bekaa Air and, let me tell you, there’s a reason they’ve got all five star reviews; our pilot and the tour were phenomenal.

After three glorious days, it was back to the airport for us and on a five hour flight home to Perth.

Expedia have kindly given me a 10% off code to share with you: KIARA10. Terms and conditions apply.
