3 Steps to Healthy Hair with VO5
Because I haven't been to the hairdressers in almost two-years.
________
Before we begin on our journey to healthy hair, I'd like to give you some background information on my hair. In the past, my haircare regime has been limited to shampooing and conditioning, and that's about it. When faced with what haircare products to buy, my decision was habitually judged by value-for-money over quality. I never quite understood why women splurged ridiculous amounts of money on tiny little bottles of false promises that wouldn't even last one wash on my thick mane (50c piece? I don't think so).
Now don't get me wrong, my negligent ways worked wonders for me, even to the point where at my rare salon appearance the hairdresser would comment on how healthy my hair was and even ask what product I used (te-he-he-he). And then, after cutting my hair to-the-collarbone again almost two years ago, I decided it was time to grow out my mane to its infamous to-the-waist length.
Just a couple of inches off my goal, some have asked how it got so long so fast. My response? Well, err, I haven't actually trimmed it since it was at its shorter length. Alas, 'tis true, it has been almost two-years since my last visit to the hairdressers. Terrible, right? How could I even self-proclaim myself a style blogger if I can't even visit the damn salon every once in a while?
With a growing mass of scraggly split ends, I decided it was time to finally put a little effort into maintaining my golden locks, especially since they're such an important part of my identity. Much to my mother's disapproval, I didn't find the answer in a simple trim at the hairdressers (though inevitable), but instead in a few 'miracle' products that don't actually cost an arm and a leg. So I've decided to share with you my self-tested and proven three-step guide to healthy hair.
The VO5 Hot Oil proclaims itself, putting it short, to-be-freaking-awesome-for-your-hair, using fancy-schmancy terms such as 'essential blend', 'natural oils', 'Cashmere Keratin' and 'penetrate deeply', AKA wanky words that would usually turn me off a product. But alas, after just one trial, I decided this was the best thing I'd ever put on my head. This was more than evident after I rinsed the Hot Oil from my hair and begun lathering in the shampoo. I'm the one who usually makes a pretty cool pyramid of foaming bubbles and hair on the top of my head during the shampooing process, but after using the Hot Oil, my hair just slid down my back in a silky-smooth mess. No complaints there!
I've been using the VO5 Shampoo and Conditioner for some time now and I'm sold. Surprisingly, just a little 50-cent dob of each is enough to work its way through my long, thick hair, which is a miracle in itself. While I usually strike up a quick, massaging lather with the shampoo, I tend to leave the conditioner in for quite a lot longer than the recommended couple of minutes (spending the extended time making my pins silky smooth). Im particularly fond of the VO5 Give Me Texture range, as it means I can leave my hair naturally wavy with less frizz and more volume.
The final easy-peasy step to healthy hair is to apply the VO5 Heat Protect Styling Spray prior to using our damage-inducing heated styling tools; you know, the things that make our hair look awesome - blow dryers, straighteners, curling tongs, etc. I typically only use these tools on my hair maybe 1-2 times per week (more if I've got a bunch of photo shoots scheduled), but I've come to realise that a protective spray is essential to avoid heat damage, usually in the form of dry, brittle ends (ick!). I generally do not like leave-in conditioners or styling sprays, since they tend to make hair feel heavy or oily with product, which the VO5 Heat Protect Styling Spray somehow manages to avoid. Instead, the spray adds further shine to said hair and makes it smell super delicious (I'm sure it also reduces the amount of split ends too). While my hair tends to stay straight until the next wash, this Styling Spray seems to stop ends becoming scraggly and bent too, which means I don't have to re-straighten the ends after a day or two.

Step 1: VO5 Hot Oil
The VO5 Hot Oil proclaims itself, putting it short, to-be-freaking-awesome-for-your-hair, using fancy-schmancy terms such as 'essential blend', 'natural oils', 'Cashmere Keratin' and 'penetrate deeply', AKA wanky words that would usually turn me off a product. Step 2: VO5 Shampoo and Conditioner

Step 3: VO5 Heat Protect Styling Spray
