THE RULE BREAKER
This skirt is no skirt. Well yes, it is a skirt, but no ordinary skirt. Hailing from the highly celebrated Cue Winter '13 collection, the Australian-made skirt has stitching and pleating in all the places a woman could wish, not to mention the pockets (all praise the pocket!). I have required all my strength not to add the entire Cue collection to my closet.
While desperately searching for an outfit for a wedding the following day, I knew Cue would most likely be my savour in a situation as such. Despite my uncharacteristic lack of planning, I had an idea of the 'look' I wanted to achieve: whilst still flaunting a classic style, I hoped to push the boundaries of what is deemed appropriate wedding guest attire. As a major player in reinventing items already existing in my wardrobe (this time it was the Neon Hart crop top seen here), all I required was a full midi-skirt in a bright colour (I'll admit I was hoping for cobalt blue). But of course, I ended up with a skirt anything but colourful, as my love for anything monochromatic prevailed.
I have to admit, I absolutely love this outfit. While the high neckline and full skirt deem it classic, the unconventional elements such as the exposed midriff and lack of colour challenge the conventional wedding style.
And as much as I'd love to let you believe that I survived in stiletto sandals all day, the not-so secret is out about how to be comfortable in heels all day long - wear flats.
