The Checked Blazer Dress

This summer has been long, hot and dry with no end in sight just yet. These past few days I’ve been wishing for crisp mornings and cosy evenings, knowing full well that when they come I’ll be craving warm sunshine again. While autumn is officially beginning in a mere few days, I always assume March will be far too steamy for a cable knit jumper and a spiced chai latte (who am I kidding—I'd push through in the hottest of months).

The thing is, after a few months of one thing, you always want the other and for me that means autumnal wear of trench coats, chunky boots and felt hats. Usually I’d find myself shivering somewhere in the northern hemisphere during an Australian summer for at least a couple of weeks, but embracing my inner homebody means this is the most extended time without my beloved oversized sweater collection in many years.

So, I find myself reaching for warm neutrals in my wardrobe that have AW20 vibes, but perfectly suitable for these hot and humid summer days, like these nude wide leg pants or my checked short sleeve blazer dress (pictured). It’s the kind of dress you can wear as is, like I am on this day, or layer a turtleneck jumper and tights underneath during the cooler months. Now that’s versatile.

Special mentions to my favourite accessories of the season too; my tiramisu cat-eye sunglasses, structured black everyday bag and minimalist strappy sandals with a kitten heel. You’ve probably been seeing me wear them over and over again on the ‘Gram.

PS. I’m going to do a little styling session on Insta Stories today, so make sure you head on over to @lioninthewild to follow along.
